New Ocarina!

Hello all people of the world! (Or rather, all people of the world visiting this blog.) H.G. here after a Sherlock-worthy hiatus. I’m still working on “Hamlet,” but I’m almost done, and then I’m excited to move on to book two. I’ve already picked it out, but I mustn’t reveal it yet. 🙂

Anyway, today my family and I went up to Woodstock, New York. We visited a monastery and went into some shops, and we also went to lunch at an Asian restaurant (best and only Bento I’ve ever had.) At one of the shops, I got a new ocarina!

What is an ocarina, you may ask? Well, an ocarina is a small instrument that can have anywhere from four to over twenty holes. Ocarinas are usually roundish in shape and have a mouthpiece that sometimes comes off of the body of the instrument. They also are found in Zelda games. (To learn more, click this link.) The one I bought has six holes. I already own two others, a plastic twelve-hole – one of the more common ocarina types – and another six-hole, ceramic. The one I got today I believe is from Peru, and yet it only cost me (or rather, my dad) five dollars! I’ve never played a wooden ocarina before, so we’ll have to see how it goes. It can fit into my pocket, and there’s an attachment place for a cord if I want to put it around my neck. I shall have music everywhere I go!

I’m listening to an amazing song right now by Emeli Sande – a singer who I know nothing about and have actually never heard of before this – but they just used the song in America’s Got Talent, so I looked it up, and I’m not sorry that I did. As I’ve said before, I have an addiction to depressing songs, so this one will fit perfectly in my playlist. Yes, I like depressing music, but that’s because I like to feel deep emotion, rather than the shallow emotions that I fear our country is becoming accustomed to. The song is called “Read All About It”. I know I feel the way the lyrics describe sometimes! Here it is if you want to listen!

Top Ten Favorite Songs

My ten favorite songs, now why do I ask myself tough questions like this… Might as well answer now that I’m here.

#10: If I Die Young (The Band Perry)

This song is so sad, but I really love it. I cried my head off the first time I heard it.

#9: Towards the Sun (Rihanna)

I actually really like this movie… I know, I know. This is a really good song, though! Note: most of the lyrics in this video are wrong, but it’s not a crazy-famous song and I didn’t feel like watching the music video, so ignore the inaccurate lyrics. Also, the only other lyrics video I found was with clips from the movie and it got annoying. :\

#8: The Dragonborn Comes (Skyrim)

Now please forgive me, but I haven’t actually played Skyrim… but I truly love this song! It makes me think maybe I should play the game! This is a trailer for it with the song in the background. The trailer made me want to play the game too!

#7: The Song of Time (Eiji Aonuma)

I know, I’m such a nerd… this version is maybe the best cover I’ve heard. It’s so beautiful when played on it’s intended instrument. *sighs* Zelda music…

#6: Fruits Basket Opening

An Anime theme song, H.G.? Seriously? But it’s such a pretty song, and – well, I haven’t seen the show, but I’m reading the books right now and they’re really good.

#5: Demons (Imagine Dragons)

I guess I’m only putting depressing songs, but this is the kind of music I like to listen to. Depressing stuff that’ll make you cry.

#4: The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber)

I am such a huge phangirl! I love Phantom of the Opera so much, so OBVIOUSLY this song has to be on my list! It is my dream to see this musical on Broadway.

#3: Into the West (Annie Lennox)

I LOVE LORD OF THE RINGS!!! This is maybe the only major-key song on the entire list, but it still manages to make you cry your eyes out. I was sobbing hysterically at the ending of the trilogy – books and movies.

#2: Safe & Sound (Taylor Swift ft. the Civil Wars)

Whaaaat? It says Taylor Swift but this is clearly Madilyn Bailey! Well yes, because this is the version I like the best.

#1: Bring Me to Life (Evanesence)

Funny, this became my favorite song only yesterday, but I love it SO MUCH!!! Pretty much it describes my life. 🙂
